At the close of the 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, Art + Australia reflects on Aotearoa New Zealand’s presentation at the Venice Biennale with the first Fa’afafine, Asian and Indigenous artist. Yuki Kihara’s Paradise Camp attracted 485,079 to the Arsenale garnering extensive media coverage in The Art Newspaper, Financial Times, CNN, The Guardian and referred to as ‘One of the most remarkable names to emerge from this year’s Venice Biennale’ in Elle USA. Ahead of the Australian premiere at the Powerhouse Museum in 2023, we look back on this fa’fa’fabulous exhibition and hear from the artist and curator.
